WEBSITE INFORMATION

Privacy & cookies

Last updated: 23 October 2026.

This website is run by Ian Thompson, Independent candidate for Spennymoor Town Council. You can contact Ian about your information at ian@ianthompson.online.

Contacting Ian

The contact form asks for your name, email address and message. A phone number is optional. These details are emailed to Ian’s mailbox so that he can read and reply to your enquiry. The form does not add you to a mailing list or store a separate website database of enquiries.

Please only include the information needed for your enquiry. Avoid sending medical information, financial details or information about someone else through this form. Ian handles ordinary enquiry details for the legitimate purpose of responding to people who contact him. If an enquiry needs more sensitive information, Ian can discuss an appropriate way to handle it with you.

Website hosting and email providers process the information needed to operate these services. Messages are retained in Ian’s mailbox while needed to handle the enquiry and any necessary follow-up. To ask about access, correction, deletion or an objection to the use of your information, email Ian. Some rights depend on the circumstances. You can also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office.

WhatsApp QR code, email and phone

Scanning the WhatsApp QR code with your phone opens a chat with Ian using WhatsApp. WhatsApp operates under its own privacy terms. The email and phone links open the relevant application on your device.

Cookieless website statistics

We use self-hosted Umami at analytics.ianthompson.online to understand how this website is used and improve it. It runs without an acceptance pop-up and does not set analytics cookies. Statistics are not used for advertising, personalised political messages or cross-site tracking.

The tracker sends the page visited, browser language, screen size and a fixed event when a contact form is successfully sent. Umami also derives browser, device and approximate location information from technical request data. Names, email addresses, phone numbers, messages, URL query strings, fragments and referrers are excluded. Contact enquiries are handled separately and are never added to analytics.

Cookies and security

Google Analytics has been removed. Cookies left by the former provider are cleared. If your browser blocks preference storage, analytics stays off. Hosting and security services may process technical request information to deliver the site and prevent abuse.
